Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park

In addition to being located in the center of the city, Chickamauga & Chattanyooga National Military Park preserves two major sites of U.S. Civil War battles and honors those who fought for their country. Visitors of the national park can tour the battlefields and learn about the last days of the Confederacy. The park also offers many other outdoor activities.

Both the Chickamauga Battlefield and Lookout Mountain Battlefield have walking trails that wind through the historic sites. The hiking trails meander along the old military roads, which are dotted with monuments and markers. Lookout Mountain is 106 miles from Atlanta. Using the public transit system, you can take a bus from Atlanta to Chattanooga and spend just over three hours in the park. You’ll need to buy a ticket in advance or pay a fee of around 500 USD if you want to fly last-minute. You can also drive to Lookout Mountain from Atlanta. You’ll need approximately two hours to complete the drive and about fifteen dollars for gas.
