A: It all depends. By weight, kosher salt, sea salt, and table salt all have about the same amount of salt per serving. So, if you’re measuring mass quantities for recipes, you can always slightly reduce the salt content by switching to kosher salt (and/or sea salt, if you’re using sea salts). The only benefit of kosher salt is that it has a higher concentration of minerals, which makes it better for your health overall. Sea salt and table salt have no such concentration of minerals in them, so their benefit of having “more” of certain beneficial nutrients in the mix doesn’t come into play.
B: The texture is vastly different. Sea salt has a very coarse texture. This coarse texture is what makes kosher salt so good for cooking. As you’ll know, Jews don’t traditionally eat much meat, so there’s not a lot of room for “bite” in traditional Jewish cuisine. kosher salt provides the “bite” that will help make traditional Jewish food more palatable to the average eater.
C: All three salts do have some health benefits to them, however. For example, sea salt is a wonderful natural antibiotic that helps protect against germs and infection. This is why kosher and sea salt are used in most Jewish and kosher restaurants. It helps keep food “fresh.”
D: Table salt tends to be salty and flavorless, at least most of the time. Kosher salt, on the other hand, has a wide variety of flavors from very salty to very sweet. You can use kosher salt in a variety of cooking methods, which can help to improve the flavor of your favorite foods. As you probably already know, kosher salt tastes great on eggs and seafood.
K F: Kosher table salt goes by a number of names including Fudge Salt, kosher-popcorn salt, kosher salt, and kosher salt flakes. While it is a bit more expensive than sea salt, kosher salt has a wide range of uses and is excellent for seasoning any number of foods. No matter what you’re cooking, adding a pinch of kosher salt to warm water can make a world of difference. The same goes for sprinkling it over baked potatoes or sprinkling it on sausages.
PAS: Table salt and sea salt do not work as well together. Sea salt is much better at absorbing flavor while table salt does not. Although both are excellent at adding to the flavor in foods, it seems to take table salt a bit longer to absorb into the body and this may contribute to the fact that many people prefer sea salt for the fact that it is much more easily absorbed by the body. kosher salt is also much more expensive than sea salt, however it is also a necessity if you want to cook meat, fish, or game and you will need a lot of it for preparing all these different cuisines.
ZR: This variety is made by mixing kosher salt and a special chemical known as sodium bicarbonate. The chemical gives the salt its coarse texture. Most sea salts have a smooth texture, but this one is very coarse and this particular type is great for getting the flavors of many different cuisines into your cooking. It is also great for dissolving any salt residue that you may have in your dishes.
Now that we’ve reviewed all of the major types of kosher salt, it should be easier for you to choose the kind that will work best for you. There are basically three different types of kosher salt that are differentiated based on their ingredients. Sea salt is much better at absorbing flavor while table salt tends to be less absorbent. And regular table salt tends to have a smooth texture.
