DYESS TEXAS AIR FORCE BASE

There are many things to do in Dyess Texas Air Force Base, including golfing, bowling, and outdoor activities. In addition to golf, there are batting cages and arcade games available at the Putt-Putt Fun Center. Kids can also take advantage of the PrimeTime Family Entertainment Center’s laser tag, axe-throwing, and mini-golf facilities. Guests can also visit the Dyess Museum, which offers guided tours and rotating exhibits about the history of Dyess AFB. Other attractions include the Grace Museum, located in a renovated hotel, which features a permanent collection of Texas history. The 14,000-square-foot museum also features Frontier Texas!

Those with a passion for aircraft may want to visit the Linear Air Park at Dyess. It has more than thirty historic aircraft from World War II to the present. All but one have flown, but the ‘Star of Abilene’, a B-1B Lancer that first flew in 2003, is still on display at the airport’s front gate. Another recently retired C-130 Hercules is on display on the other side of the Arnold Blvd.

If you have a military ID card, be sure to bring it with you. You may also need to bring a copy of your orders if you are visiting the base. If you are flying in a military car, make sure you have insurance and a registered car.

ATTRACTIONS

For visitors planning a vacation to Dyess, Texas, there are many fun activities to choose from. This small town sits 7 miles southwest of Abilene and is home to Dyess Air Force Base. The base is home to the 7th Bomb Wing, one of two B-1B Lancer strategic bomber wings in the United States Air Force. The other wing, the 28th Bomb Wing, is located at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota.

ABILENE

Dyess Air Force Base is just seven miles west of downtown Abilene and about 150 miles west of Fort Worth. There are a number of things to do here. Visitors can see the local aircraft and explore the museum, as well as visit a nearby training range to learn about the air force. Dyess is home to more than 1,100 Air Force men and women.

If history is your thing, you’ll love the 12-armored Division Memorial Museum, which features three floors of exhibits about the 12th Armored Division. You’ll also find an art gallery that showcases local and national artists. Whether you love modern art or a little history, there’s something for everyone to do in Abilene.

Dyess Air Force Base is a great place to go for an afternoon or weekend getaway. While the city is small, it is still full of exciting things to do, especially if you’re a military buff. The Winery at Willow Creek is another place to try. This Abilene winery opened its doors in 2012 and uses grapes from local growers to produce 1,900 cases of wine. The famous Peach Chardonnay is a popular choice, and the brewery also offers delicious snacks and cigars.

ABILENE, TEXAS – STORYBOOK CHARACTER Sculptures

The Storybook Sculpture Project in Abilene, Texas, has recently installed six bronze statues of Dr. Seuss characters. These pieces, which are part of a larger art project, were created by local artists Bob Wade and Leo Rijn. The project was a collaboration between the city’s cultural arts and public art departments.

The Storybook Sculpture Project is an arts-and-culture initiative that features the largest collection of storybook character sculptures in the U.S. The project began with the creation of Childhood’s Great Adventure, which depicts characters bursting out of children’s books. Inspired by William Joyce’s novel Santa Calls, the installation has become a staple of Abilene’s arts and cultural events.

The Children’s Art and Literacy Festival is a free, three-day event that celebrates art and literacy. Every year, the downtown area is transformed into a magical storybook land. Each year, the festival brings new storybook character sculptures to the city.

Storybook Festival events kick off with a parade that honors a different picture book artist. The festival is free to attend and includes live animals, puppet shows, and storytimes with the characters. During the festival, children can also enjoy the Storybook Capital Express, which will provide tours of Everman Park and its Sculptures.

AIR FORCE BASE MEMORIAL CENTER MUSEUM & LINEAR PARK

Dyess Air Force Base is a historic base and the site of a museum and linear park. Visitors to this base can learn about the history of the base and the Air Force by taking a guided tour of the museum. Groups can be as small as five people and children under 16 can join. The tour is a great way to learn about military history and see some great photos.

TEXAS STATE VETERANS CEMETERY

Dyess Air Force Base is one of the most significant military bases in the United States. It is home to over 13,000 military personnel and occupies 6,409 acres. Visitors to the base can enjoy the many outdoor and indoor activities offered on base. The Big Country Hotel & Suites is just minutes away from the base.

You can also visit the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, which honors the brave soldiers who gave their lives in the service of their country. The cemetery also has a visitor center and other facilities to support visitors. Lastly, if you have young children, you can visit the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, which was opened in 2000. The Center features exhibits about the illustrations in children’s books, and features art and interactive exhibits for children of all ages.

Dyess Air Force Base is another place worth visiting. This base is home to the 7th Bomb Wing, two B-1B Lancer squadrons, and the 317th Airlift Group. You can explore the base’s history by taking a guided tour. If you’re interested in aircraft, you can also check out the Dyess Linear Air Park, which has 34 historic planes on display.
